Patty’s thoughts on So Soft Fine Glitter Paint from DecoArt

So Soft Fine Glitter from DecoArtWhen DecoArt introduced this line of paints called So Soft Fine Glitter, I kinda did a little eye roll… I have alot of paint and alot of glitter and
I don’t do much fabric painting in my world of Decorative Painting..  Sooo….. I pushed it aside.

Then while I was at Hoot (Heart of Ohio Tole Convention) a lovely artist named Debra Welty had some T-shirts she had painted
that had the BEST sparkle to them.. low chunk gorgeous GLAM! And after I asked permission to touch  the shirt I saw that it doesn’t come off..

This was amazing.. so I took some out last week… played around with them… The So Soft Fine Glitter is glitter suspended in a paint and medium,
it stays flexible like the So Soft paints do and  you can layer them over painted surfaces… One coat gives you a little sparkle a few coats.. MAGIC!
Sometimes you need  ”GLITTER” and sometimes you need sparkle… I love that if you do wash this the product doesn’t come off and it won’t shed like some glitters do.

Hands down I am a fan and am making excuses to use these great products,
How would the Dog look with some So Soft Fine Glitter on his curly coat? LOL>… Come here Freckles!

    Hi Patty,

This is my first visit to the blog. I am so impressed with your generosity for sharing information about painting and your discoveries and techniques.

When I first started painting in the early 1980s my sister took me to a class in oils with a local teacher. I didn’t have supplies and couldn’t afford much with 4 small children and not much free time but my sister gave me the use of her brushes and supplies until gradually I was able to afford my own. The oils were interesting but the teacher occasionally did acrylics. She did beautiful work but nobody was interested in acrylics because floating was so difficult for them.

So with no one to really teach me, I too became self-taught. I had one or two books (they were also hugely expensive too) and I went over and over the instructions until I got it. I soon discovered there is quite a difference in how a teacher presents the instructions in the written word. I would have so benefitted from your videos but we did not have much in the way of technology back then. (none)

The art courses I had in school promoted self-expression but little or no information on actually using the brushes, oils and watercolors. It was considered taboo to use another person’s drawings or even line drawings. I’m so glad we now have decorative painting so we can actually Paint! I try to share as much as I can with my friends and students about what I have learned and offer encouragement. I love that you show mistakes and fixing them on your videos – it teaches folks how to think about fixing their own errors and trying something and then deciding to do something else and that you share your though process in talking about them.

I haven’t painted much lately due to time constraints and some medical issues. I’m off work for a little while right now and am getting interested in painting again watching your videos. It’s easy to get in a painting funk when you have a lot of stressors in your life. I’m doing better and will join some friends tomorrow who get together to paint once a week.

I just wanted to thank you for what you do and what it means to me. I so wish I lived in your town to be around all of you creative people because that’s what really fuels our own joy and creativity with painting, just like joining a knitting group or a book club.

I hope you all have a wonderful blessed Christmas with your families.
